Static Characteristics and Leakage Rates of Smooth Annular Seals Based on a New Solution Method for Gas-Liquid Two-Phase Conditions

This paper proposes a new solution method for the leakage and static characteristics of smooth annular seal under homogeneous gas-liquid two-phase flow based on bulk-flow model. In this method, Rayleigh–Plesset equation is introduced into governing equations to describe behavior bubbles considering mixture compressibility. Detailed comparisons between Childs’ experimental rates predicted ones proposed are conducted, results show good agreement with results, maximum error 11.2%. Moreover, seal, including rates, gas volume fraction (GVF) distribution, pressure density, viscosity within seals, investigated present method. The that as inlet increases from 0% 10%, local each axial position will increase, however, leakage, decrease. Bubble radius has little effect seals. Additionally, model seals different clearances leakages bigger clearance behave more sensitively GVF changes.
